is a multidisciplinary organization whose mission is to promote and enhance language access in healthcare in the United States.​​​

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and is a U.S. federal law enacted in 1996 as an attempt at incremental healthcare reform. It was subsequently revised in 2009 with the ARRA/HITECH Act and again in 2013 with the Omnibus Rule.
HIPAA's intent was to reform the healthcare industry by reducing costs, simplifying administrative processes and burdens, and improving the privacy and security of patients' health information. Today HIPAA compliance mainly revolves around the last item: protecting the privacy and security of patients' health information.

The American Translators Association (ATA) is a professional organization in the United States that supports translators and interpreters. Founded in 1959, its mission is to advance the translation and interpreting professions and foster the professional development of its members.

The International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) is a US-based international organization committed to the advancement of professional medical interpreters as the best practice to equitable language access to health care for linguistically diverse patients. Founded in 1986, with over 2,000 members, most providing interpreting services in over 70 languages.

The National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators promotes the highest professional standards in interpreting and translation. Professional interpreting is required to ensure due process, equal protection and equal access to the administration of justice for non-English or limited English proficient (LEP) individuals. Judiciary interpreters work in court settings, but also out of court, when the proceedings may have legal consequences
